In-class activities: 1] Resources: Below is a link to an older version of the Norton Field Guide to Writing, which is published by W. W. Norton, the publisher of the Little Seagull Handbook, which is the paper handbook that is used in many sections of English 111 and 112. The "handbook" section of the Norton Field Guide is exactly the same as the Little Seagull, so we will use this as our primary handbook because it will be easier to search than the .PDF handbook that I posted in BBd. It also has some interactive quizzes/lessons on lots of editing, punctuation and grammar skills. I will show you how to use these resources next Tuesday. Additionally, the Purdue University Online Writing Lab (OWL) is up to date with changes in MLA and APA style guides, so we will use that for our research guide.

  • Find and printout or bring with you three full length restaurant reviews, i.e., not a Yelp comment or TripAdvisor paragraph.
  • Contribute to our "Hot Fun in the Summertime" Google list.
  • Finish the annotated bibliography, copy it into word for printing out on Thursday.

In-class activities: 1] Discuss edits/corrections to reading to reading literacy narrative paragraphs

  • Work all of the Norton lessons related to the types of errors I marked on your Reading Literacy Narrative paragraphs
  • Edit and correct the errors on that document, and resubmit it along with the corrected copy on Thursday, next Tuesday at the latest

Webfolio of Revisions


  • First, make your webfolio open access to everyone on the WWW without having to log in to VCCS
  • Your home page, which will identify you and the purpose of this web site you are developing. It will include:
    • A brief introduction (some things about yourself)
    • An image of you or an image/images that in some cogent way represent you
    • Links to your class page and the TNCC website
    • Your college email link or a Wix form for emailing you if you used the Wix webpage builder
    • An index of hot links to your posted projects


    • Essay #1: "Restaurant Review"

    • Essay #3
    • Essay #4

    Annotated Bibliography

    • Articles about effects of cell phone use

    Grading criteria for Webfolio (10 points):

    • The homepage has all of the information and details stipulated above, is unified, and it is easy to navigate to the other pages (1 pt.).
    • The homepage and annotated bibliography are well edited and grammatically correct with information presented in complete sentences where it is appropriate to do so (1 pt.).
    • Revisions of essays: 2 pts. for each, which is revised and edited per the grading marks and suggestions for improvement
    • Note: Extra consideration will be weighed into the grade for pertinent material voluntarily added to the webfolio.
