TRAINSTo say that someone has an "interest" in trains is
always an understatement. Trains either evoke an irrational devotion or are simply big,
noisy things that are annoying at best. That devotion is based on trains as an emotional
experience--it is the sight, the sound, and the feel that is an experience not found
anywhere else. If you haven't been at trackside as a steam engine or a brace of diesels
hauling a long freight thundered by, then you can never know what attracts people to the
experience. The number of sites devoted to trains is large. Below are just a few of my
favorites. The Nickel Plate Road Historical and Technical Society
Cleveland
Union Terminal--History of the construction and use of this well-known landmark in
Northern Ohio. National Model
Railroad Association (NMRA)--Sites devoted to prototyping and model railroads.
Rails and Shafts--A
site for books and videos related to trains. Virginia Transporation Museum (Roanoke) Return to Home Page
