VADE values collaboration among all instructional and co-curricular professionals as key to the success of students requiring developmental education or learning assistance. The Spring 2002 VADE Conference in the beautiful foothills of historic Charlottesville promises to be a stimulating opportunity for learning and sharing.

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?

All English, math, and science faculty, learning assistance and learning resources staff, student services professionals, researchers, and administrators from high schools, two and four-year postsecondary colleges and universities, interested in the success of students who require additional preparation or learning support for success in the college environment, should plan to attend and share in the learning experience.

The Spring 2002 conference promises to be a forum for fostering collaboration among and across faculty, learning assistance and learning resources personnel, program administrators, and counselors. Participants will benefit from the possibilities for student success presented, as well as from opportunities to interact with a variety of professionals within the educational community.

WHAT TOPICS SHOULD I EXPECT?

Student learning success topics will be presented in the form of a paper, hands-on workshop, or roundtable discussion. Topics will include informed placement into preparatory and college level courses; proven processes for teaching, learning, and evaluating with portfolios; strategies for improving learning in mathematics, composition, and reading classrooms; learning support systems, collaborative projects from across the state; the affective domain and academic success; creative approaches to the learning environment; technology in the classroom; integrated learning across disciplines; English as second language students.

A breakfast business meeting and concurrent sessions with a break for hotel check-out (required by noon) are planned for the morning. The conference will conclude with a luncheon beginning at 12 noon.

WHAT ARE THE COSTS?

Conference Registration:

Early Bird Registration Fee: $40

Registrations after January 21, 2002 - $80.00

Membership Fee: $10 annually

The conference room rate is $80.00 for a single and $85.00 for a double room. The hotel rate is subject to a 9.5% state sales tax. The last day for making hotel reservations at these special conference rates is January 21, 2002.

Be sure to mention Virginia Association for Developmental Education. Check-in is at 3:00 PM and check-out is at noon. Room cancellations must be made with the Omni Hotel a minimum of 48 hours in advance.

 

Directions:

From the north:

Route 29 South into Charlottesville to Route 250 Bypass East.

Route 250 Bypass East to third stoplight.

Turn right onto McIntyre Road.

Go 7/10 mile to the second stoplight.

Go through stoplight and you will see the hotel on your left.

Use left turn lane to enter hotel driveway.

From the east and west:

I-64 to Exit #120 (Charlottesville/5th Street Exit).

If you are coming from the east, turn right from the exit ramp.

If you are coming from the west, turn left from the exit ramp.

Go approximately three miles or through five stoplights.

Hotel will be on the right.

From the south:

Take Route 79 North to Route 250 Bypass East to third stoplight.

Turn right onto McIntyre Road.

Go 7/10 mile to second stoplight.

Go through stoplight and you will see the hotel on your left.

Use left turn lane to enter hotel driveway.

 

 

REGISTRATION FORM:

Please submit the registration fee of $80.00 by January 21, 2002. Registrations sent before before January 21, 2002, qualify for the early bird registration fee of $40.00. The 2002 membership fee of $10.00 is required to receive the registration fees as stated.
