The Spring 2001 VADE Conference at the beautiful Virginia oceanfront promises to be a stimulating opportunity for learning and sharing.

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?
All English, math, and science faculty, learning assistance and learning resources staff, student services professionals, researchers, and administrators interested in the success of students who require additional preparation or learning support for success in the college environment should plan to attend and share in the learning experience.
The Spring 2001 conference promises to be a forum for fostering cross-divisional partnerships among faculty, learning assistance and learning resources personnel, program administrators, and counselors. Participants will benefit from the possibilities for student success to be gained from the presentations, as well as from opportunities to interact with a variety of professionals within the educational community.
WHAT TOPICS SHOULD I EXPECT?
Student learning success topics presented in the form of a paper, hands-on workshop, or roundtable discussion, with suggested topics including learning support systems, the affective domain and academic success, creative approaches to the learning environment, technology in the classroom, integrated learning across disciplines, distance learning for developmental students, English as second language
students, and placement systems.

The conference opens at noon with a banquet and guest speaker followed by concurrent sessions, exhibits, and other special activities.

A breakfast business meeting and concurrent sessions with a break for hotel check-out are planned for the morning. The conference will conclude with a boxed lunch at noon available for participants ready to travel and for those who can linger for conversation.

Membership Fee: $10 year (Fees paid
in fall 2000 continue membership through 2001)

The conference room rate is $79.00 for an oceanfront room or $63.00 for a landside/partial view room. The Virginia reimbursement rate for the area is $77.00. The hotel rate is subject to a 10% state sales tax plus $1.00 per night/per room lodging tax. Room rates are based on double occupancy.
To make a reservation and secure the conference rate, call the toll-free reservation line at 1-800-521-5635 by February 1, 2001. Be sure to mention Virginia Association for Developmental Education. Check-in is at 4:00PM and check-out is before 11:00AM. Room cancellations must be made with the Sheraton Oceanfront Hotel a minimum of 72 hours in advance.
Directions:
From Interstate 64, take Interstate 264E to the end (Interstate 264E was previously known as the Va. Beach Expressway, Rt. 44). Turn left onto Atlantic Avenue. The Sheraton Oceanfront Hotel is about ¾ of a mile on the right at 36th Street and Atlantic. Complimentary valet parking is available.
