The Wonderful World of Business Administration
Business Administration is a very wide field and has great opportunities. There are so many professions to get just off of this one major. The professions that most interest me are record keeping and account management. Record keeping is dealing with filing and updating information to keep track of your accounts. Account management goes hand and hand with record keeping. In account management you are dealing with a lot of information to see a few things. One is to see where you are gaining or losing money or assets. The other is to see what clients are paying on time, and what clients owe money.
Record keeping is the profession that I would really like to get into after school. Record keeping is a profession that has a wide range of positions available. This profession offers great salaries, up to 35K to 50K in your first year. Most record keeping and accounts management positions require you to have either a bachelor’s or at least an associate’s degree. The reason I say that account management goes hand and hand with record keeping is that both deal with data entry. Also both deals with terms that we call in accounting debits, credits, accounts receivable and accounts payable.
Communication plays a great role in the accounting world. Communication is very important because you have to either speak with your client on a day to day basis or give some details to the person that you are working for.
Business Administration has a lot of opportunity, for a wide range of people. This profession entails a lot of educational background, but when it’s all said and done, it is a great field to look into. So, if you are looking for a great career, Business Administration is a perfect place to start.
By interviewing a person in this field, it was a very interesting experience. I found out a lot of very helpful information. Going to the Holiday Inn’s front desk and asking to interview some person in the accounting field was very successful. I didn’t know it would be as easy as it was. The accountant that they set me up with had a lot of information to share about his field of accounting. I had put together some questions to ask him that I had come up with a few days before. The questions that I focused on the most were, is the pay in his field and position challenging and competitive to the accountants in the corporate world. In accounting as a profession, is it stressful, or is it somewhat relaxing. I understand that it is very important to have your CPA, but is it as important as some of the professors make it to be. I know communication plays a very important role in today’s world, but how important is it in the accounting world. He started out saying that it is a great paying career and that no matter where you go the pay is, nine times out of ten going to be very competitive. It is not stressful; it is all in how you handle certain encounters in this very broad and confusing field. And yes, it is important to have your CPA, but there are a lot of careers in this field out there that do not require a CPA. But, Mr. Rush when you go to school for something that important and time consuming, you should go for the best in your studied field, and the best in your particular field is to have your CPA. Also communication is probably the most important aspect in accounting, being that you most talk to people on a day to day bases. For example Mr. Rush, if someone were dealing with your money, would you want to know what was going on? And then I understood exactly what he was saying. He followed by saying, it is also important to communicate so you can let other people know what is going on and so others can let you know what is happening as well.
Is the use of the computers important in the profession of accounting? The computer is one of the most important tools in the process of accounting, especially in this day and age. If you look at it everything is based on the computer. The computer is important in a lot of ways, one is that it is so much faster and the accuracy is so much better. He went on to say that although the computer is important and very helpful that it is not a total necessity. In saying this, I knew exactly what he meant, because in my years of studying accounting, the pen and piece of paper played a very important role.
If a person like myself was to come in straight out of college and apply for, let’s say an accounts manager position, what would that company be looking for in me. First of all, a degree is very important, a bachelor or a master would be the ideal degrees to have. Your qualifications and hands on experience are other important aspects. He followed by saying in most places your qualifications and hands on experience will most definitely be tested before you are even offered the position. So, before you go in and think you can just say things to impress that employer, you are really going to have to show him what you can really do.
In closing my experience at the interview was very helpful to my field of study. Now I have something to go by and to let me know what my field expects from me. So if you want to get into this wonderful field, do what I did, it will really help you understand this field a lot better. And for the most part it is very important to know what you are doing and keep working hard at what you do.
