The Interview essay, English 111, Spring 2001

For the Interview Essay, you will have two options. Choose one, do the research, and write the paper of 750 to 1000 words in length.

Option one, Community Service: Organizations Making a Difference
What are the problems in your community, and who is doing anything about them? That is the question you will consider for this assignment, and, it is hoped, one for which you will provide an answer. First, identify a real problem or problems that exist in your community, and identify an agency or organization that is working to address the problem. Research what the organization is doing, interview a spokesperson or the head of the agency or organization, and write a paper describing what they are doing to improve the quality of life in the community you have defined. Your community may be your neighborhood, this region, the state, or even the nation. Keep in mind that your primary audience for the paper will be visitors to your web site, so make any appropriate or useful links to relevant electronic sources.

A while back, a group of students in English 111 did a somewhat similar project, and their papers might help to give you some ideas. Here is the link: Agencies Solving Problems

Option two, Professional Skills: Communicating as a Professional
